For the past decade The Judy Chops have been wowing audiences with their deft musicianship and high-energy live shows. This seven piece band comprised of family and friends has evolved from a Shenandoah Valley favorite into one of the hottest acts in the Virginia music scene. Their unique take on Americana is a fusion of modern and vintage musical styles, blending elements of swing, blues, rock, and soul for a sonic experience Huffington Post hails as 'genre-defying!' The Judy Chops have played many of Virginia's finest festivals including Red Wing Roots Music Festival, FloydFest, Front Porch Fest, Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Devil's Backbone Hoopla, and LOCKN'. The Judy Chops released their first live album, 'Live at Red Wing V' this summer, and have a brand new studio album called 'The Good Days' coming out late Summer/ Fall 2022.

"Although they blend elements of swings, blues, and rock, The Judy Chops cannot be contained into one singular genre. They are vibrant and passionate and full of love. You can hear the excitement and cohesion in every note."

"Mostly recorded in the backwoods of central Virginia, The Judy Chops’ fourth studio LP Love Is the Answer carries a lot of Southern traditions ( a lot ); from soul to funk to rockabilly, the band jumps from genre to genre on almost every song. Even opener “Q 4 U,” sounds like a wacky vaudevillian romp and, over 11 tracks, The Judy Chops’ variety show marches onward. The septet—consisting of William Howard (electric guitar, vocals), Molly Murphy (hollowbody guitar, vocals), Sally Murphy (banjo, vocals), Mike Pressel (trumpet), Rachel Smith (baritone saxophone), Jims Hinkle (bass) and Jess Bergh (drums)—clearly enjoys navigating through all of these sonic changes. However, they’re at their most dynamic on the feel-good, soul-funk single “Lay My Love.”
