Harrell "Young Rell" Davenport Joins the GHS Artist Family

GHS Strings is proud to welcome Harrell “Young Rell” Davenport to the GHS artist roster. Raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Young Rell has quickly emerged as a rising force in the blues world, earning major attention for a breakout performance in Chicago that reached 165,000 views and 4,000 shares on Facebook.

A dexterous, inventive guitarist and harmonica standout, Young Rell commands attention as a vocalist and songwriter. Whether performing solo or with an ensemble, he delivers songs with sincerity and poise.

Young Rell’s impact reaches far beyond the stage. A prolific presence online, he has built a global community connecting around musicianship, instruments, and the blues traditions that shape his sound. As a child, Young Rell navigated personal struggles and trauma by immersing himself in music born from hardship and resilience. He found solace in studying the blues and expressing his own voice through it.

Young Rell’s authenticity and social grace have led to an impressive network and a range of achievements:

  • Peers: Young Rell has been championed by respected artists including Billy Branch, Kingfish Ingram, Bob Margolin, Bernard Allison, and others.

  • Stages: He has performed at prominent venues and festivals, including the Notodden Blues Festival, the King Biscuit Blues Festival, Morgan Freeman’s Ground Zero Blues Clubs in Mississippi, and Red’s Juke Joint in Clarksdale.

  • Awards: Young Rell has been nominated twice by Blues Blast Magazine for the Sean Costello Rising Star Award (2024 & 2025), and once by SPAH for the Bernie Bray Harmonica Player of the Year Award (2025).

“From the first time we saw what Young Rell was doing, it was clear he’s the real deal,” said Russ McFee. “He has an uncommon feel for the blues—tone, touch, and authenticity—and he connects with people in a way you can’t manufacture. We’re excited to welcome him to the GHS family and support him as his career continues to grow.”
