Jeffrey Smith was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, and began his musical journey at age 11. His first band came together when he was 16, and music has been his life ever since. Fast forward a few years, and a random phone call from childhood friend Phil Vassar brought Jeff to Nashville, and he has been a cornerstone in Phil’s organization since. Jeff is not only musical director for Phil’s live band, but Jeff has co-writes on 4 of Phil’s records, and co-production credits on 3 of Phil’s records, including his 2017 release American Soul.
Jeff also co-wrote the Reba McIntire song ‘Goodbye Looks Good on Me’, which became the theme song for Reba’s 2013 television show Malibu Country. Jeff’s live credits include Charlie Daniels, JoDee Messina, Keb Mo’, Steve Cropper, Tommy Shaw and Chip Estes from the TV show ‘Nashville’.
Jeff has been humbled by the accolades and situations that music has presented for him. Some career highlights include performing for President Bush at the White House, The Tonight Show, and The David Letterman Show, and GHS strings have been there for every gig.
Jeff started using GHS strings in 1983, and his love for them is unwavering. “They have all the punch, sustain, and clarity I could ever want”.
