It's hard to put a pinpoint definition on Eric Lindell's music. Although he's been grouped under the broad umbrella of Americana, that's just an easy go-to. True enough, it is American roots music at its finest, but that just scratches the surface of what Lindell brings to the table. For the better part of two decades he's hijacked soul on a cross-country ride that stretches north to the Blues in Chicago, south to the funky vibe of his adopted hometown of New Orleans, east to the R&B of Detroit and west to California for a taste of the Bakersfield sound - and sometimes that's all in one song! He's recorded over a dozen albums since his 1996 debut, including three in the mid-2000s for Alligator Records that rank him among the best selling artists in that storied label's history. His two most recent releases, the beautifully precise studio LP Indian Summer and the sizzling live disc Live in Space, show not only why he's come to be regarded as one of the foremost songwriters in American music today but why his live reputation continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Eric Lindell's performances have become showcase events where you're as likely to witness a ten-minute jam of brilliant-yet-understated guitar histrionics as you are to be pulled in to an intimate acoustic tale of love, loss and redemption.
