Dana Schechter is a bassist, lap steel guitarist, composer and touring performer based in Brooklyn, NY. A San Francisco native, she began on upright bass at age 12 and moved to bass guitar at age 16. Over the course of her career, she has traveled and recorded internationally with her own musical project Insect Ark as well as a wide variety of artists such as Zeal & Ardor, M. Gira’s Angels of Light (Swans), Wrekmeister Harmonies, Arabrot, Gnaw, American Music Club, Bertrand Burgalat, Botanica, and more.

Insect Ark started as a solo composition/touring project in 2011, with Schechter playing bass, lap steel guitar, synthesizers, and electronics. The band’s “experimental/doom” showcases Schechter’s unique compositional style blended with inspiration from 60's horror film soundtracks, metal, and traditional classical composers. In 2015 Insect Ark became a duo with the addition of drummer Ashley Spungin on drums/electronics. The band’s debut album “Portal/Well” (2015) garnered critical praise in publications like Pitchfork, the Wire UK, Noisey, Metal Hammer, and more. Their new album has just been completed as of summer 2017, entitled “Marrow Hymns”.

Endorsements include GHS Strings, Ampeg Amplifiers, and Rocktron Gear.

Schechter is also an animator and video artist working in the film business by trade.
