Biography: "Cumberland Gap Connection is a 4 piece group comprised of Mike Bentley (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Rod Smith (Vocals/Banjo), Bryan Russell (Vocals/Bass), and David Mowell (Mandolin). CGC has recently released their new project "A Whole Lotta Lonesome", which has been dubbed already, by those who are familiar with the band, as the best music from the band to date. "A Whole Lotta Lonesome" is already receiving recognition, as it is frequently being played on Sirius/XM satellite radio, and has made the Roots Music Report weekly chart in the top 50 bluegrass albums, for the weeks of March 25, 2011, April 1, 2011, April 8, 2011 & April 15, 2011. The previous project entitled "Grandpa's Swing", met with much success, as the song "Gravel Springs" was in the Top 10 on the Bluegrass Now Fan's Choice Top 20 charts eight of nine months, earning the No. 1 spot in bluegrass for the months of July and September in 2008. While continuing in the tradition of playing some of the "old standard" songs in bluegrass, CGC prides themselves in performing as much original material as possible. The band does this not only for the sake of being different, but just to be who they are, musicians with the common goal of pleasing fans and promoters by doing what they love to do."
