Darin & Brooke Aldridge Score #1 Hit

"Tennessee Flat Top Box", the Classic Country Song by Johnny Cash and later by Rosanne Cash, returns to the top spot, this time on the Bluegrass Charts.

The December issue of Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine has the Aldridge’s release of the famous song at the top of its National Bluegrass Survey chart, marking their debut at the top spot. We wanted to reach out to you and let you know the good news and thank you again for your partnership with Darin & Brooke. Its partners like you that helped them have one of the biggest, most successful years ever in 2015 and 2016 is shaping up to be even better!

“Tennessee Flattop Box” by Darin & Brooke Aldridge “is a beautiful jewel of a rendition of one of my Dad’s most-loved songs” says Rosanne Cash.   Ms. Cash should know because her version of the song was a number one hit and the song’s appeal is still very strong.

Darin and Brooke included the song, written by Johnny Cash, on their newest album, “Snapshots”, which pays homage to the influences that have shaped their music.  Guest artists on the album included Sam Bush, Ricky Skaggs, Bobby Hicks, Doyle Lawson and Steve McMurray.  The album made its debut at #8 on the Billboard bluegrass album chart and reached #2 on the Bluegrass Unlimited listing of albums over the summer.  It is the sixth album the married couple from North Carolina has released since they formed their touring band in 2008.  Before that Darin Aldridge traveled and recorded with the Country Gentlemen for seven years until the band disbanded after the death of Charlie Waller.  “I’ve been a part of number one songs and albums before” says Darin, “but it is so satisfying to have this much success and be able to share it with my lovely and talented wife”.

Rosanne Cash believes that “a great song deserves a lot of interpretations” and praises Brooke’s rich and powerful vocals and Darin’s catchy instrumental accompaniment. “Tennessee Flattop Box” tells the story of a young guitar player who charmed all the girls with his talent and good looks.  The lead figure in the song could easily fit either Johnny Cash or Darin Aldridge.  Brooke often uses a line from the song to refer to her husband as her “little dark haired boy”.

In addition to touring nationally with their own band, the Aldridge’s are teaming with John Cowan for two performances in North Carolina and Virginia in December that if all goes well may lead to even more joint appearances in 2016.  Cowan was the lead singer of the iconic Newgrass Revival and continues as a member of the legendary Doobie Brothers. “Every minute on stage with John Cowan is amazing.  Time flies and it’s over before you know it.  The music is so good you just don’t want to stop playing” says Darin Aldridge.   Brooke adds that “we’ve picked and sung with John before (but) we were blown away when he asked us to join him for these special appearances.
